The Suzuki program embraces the ideas and philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, founder of the Suzuki Method. Dr. Suzuki called his teaching method the Mother-Tongue Approach, inspired by the fact that children so effortlessly learn to speak their native tongue. Prompted and encouraged by the parents' love and the family environment, the child responds and develops this most difficult of skills, that of intelligible speech, often moving on to using words through writing, public speaking, poetry, and various other forms of artistic expression. As with language, the components used by the Suzuki Institute Music School in the Suzuki learning triangle are:
Parent: · attending all lessons; · creating a positive home learning environment; · organizing the daily listening and practice sessions.
Student: · taking care of his/her instrument; · caring her/his own instrument; · learning to focus; · being ready to learn.
Teacher: · paying for and getting the highest possible teacher training available and embracing life-long learning; · being positive, honest, clear and organized in lessons; · helping with motivation for both the parent and the child · being available; · embracing the cornerstones of the Suzuki philosophy.
The Suzuki movement strives to create high ability and beautiful character through a nourishing environment. Students study and instrument with both private and group lessons. They learn to play quickly and correctly, enjoying the learning process. "To encourage a noble heart through music" ~ Shinichi Suzuki |
