SUZUKI VIOLIN/VIOLA TEACHER TRAINING

One of the greatest strengths of the Suzuki Approach is the high level of training available to interested teachers.  The Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) has a rigorous application process every teacher must go through to be designated a trainer of teachers for the SAA.  The SAA web site tells teachers the requirements for enrollment in Suzuki training courses on a specific instrument as well as details about how to become a trainer of teachers.

With the addition of SAA Violin Teacher Trainer, Martha Shackford, to our faculty this year, The Suzuki Institute Music School is excited and proud to be able to offer quality training on site for violin books 1- 10 and viola books 1-3.

Area teachers can now receive SAA sanctioned training to earn their registration as a teacher of the Suzuki Approach.  Ms. Shackford currently offers a variety of ways for future teachers to receive quality training for SAA registration:

Every Child Can!

This course is required by the SAA for anyone interested in becoming a Suzuki teacher.  It is a 6-hour course usually taught in one day.  The Suzuki Institute is offering this course twice this academic year from 9am - 4pm:

-      Saturday, October 8, 2011

-      Saturday, January 21, 2012

-      Tuition:  $120.00

Training

This method is the most popular and effective way for a Tampa Bay area teacher to choose:

·                   Flexible class meeting times

·                   Being able to observe the trainer's students in the studio

·                   Going at own pace

·                   Having all questions and concerns directed personally to the trainer without other interruptions.

        One Book Course

·       When a group of interested teachers want to get together for the purpose of getting
trained in one particular Suzuki violin or viola book.

·       The advantages of this training format are:

-                   This course is particularly convenient for future teachers who live too far away
to commute on a regular basis.

-                   Expenses can be shared by all class members.

-                   Observations can be done on site during the few days of the course and the
rest completed using videos loaned from Ms. Shackford.

-                   Teachers who have already done training in some of the books, can enroll
in courses which cover the material for the book or books they have not yet studied.

-                   Teachers can review a book that they would like to freshen up on.

All Suzuki Teacher Training Courses Include:

·     Thorough exploration of the Suzuki philosophy

·     Intense, hands-on training for each piece in the Suzuki Repertoire

·     Careful study of how to perform and teach techniques at all levels

·     Ways to work with the very young child

·     How to have a successful partnership with the parent

·     Parent education

·     Group and private lessons

·     Teaching music reading

·     Observations of a master teacher

Martha Shackford has been training teachers in the Suzuki Approach for over 3 decades.
